One of the most important skills the mill operator can learn is coordinate location. For example, you might need to drill a hole exactly 0.875" inch in from the left edge and 2.375" inch in from the front edge of a piece of a rectangular piece of plate stock.

When a job calls for near perfect location of holes, slots, key ways, or other cut, locating the milling machine's spindle to be exactly over the edges that are to be indexed from is critical. Once the spindle is at a ZERO position, or the edge, the table's X and Y travel can be used to position the work so the spindle axis ends up directly above the point where the two coordinates intersect. In this video you'll learn how to use both the edge finder and wiggler for this purpose.
