The LittleMachineShop.com 0XA Quick Change Tool Post - Why it's better

The 0XA quick change tool post and the associated tool holders were developed by Tormach and LittleMachineShop.com in cooperation. They were optimized to work with all versions of mini lathes, including 7x10, 7x12, 7x14 and 7x16 mini lathes.

At the time our goal was a “production” quality tool based on the Aloris design that would operate in a high-volume machine shop but made for smaller machines and tool holders/tools. To achieve this, we worked with a premium factory known for the quality of their products, materials, and quality assurance. Since that point numerous "look-alike" clones have come to market but generally chasing price vs. qualit

  • The Wedge design (The Rigidity Factor) pulls the tool holder into the dovetails, creating a "monolithic" connection with maximum surface contact. This eliminates the flex that causes tool chatter, leading to cleaner finishes and longer tool life. Budget sets typically use a "Piston" design that pushes the holder away from the post. This relies on a single point of contact and is prone to movement under heavy cuts.
  • All-Steel Construction: While cheaper sets often use aluminum or unhardened "soft" steel, we use premium alloy steel. Aluminum tool posts microscopically "spring" under load, which ruins tolerances.
  • Precision-ground and Hardened: Every working part is hardened to resist wear and then precision-ground to ensure perfectly flat, parallel surfaces. This guarantees that when you swap a tool, it returns to the exact same center height every single time (repeatability within .0001").
  • Optimized Geometry: Many "universal" sets are too tall, requiring users to mill down their tool holders just to reach the centerline. We specifically designed for lathes with an 8" swing or limited compound-to-center distance.
  • Sealed Mechanism: Our tool post is completely sealed. This prevents metal swarf and grinding grit from entering the internal wedge, the primary cause of "gritty" operation and mechanical failure in cheaper clones.

The Bottom Line. You're paying for superior mass, premium materials, and rigorous Quality Control. Our Quick-Change Tool Post not only holds the tool; it anchors it. For anyone looking to perform high-tolerance work without fighting chatter, the extra investment pays for itself by avoiding the frustration of ruined workpieces.
