Collection: Test (Lever) Indicators

An indicator is a precision measuring instrument designed to detect and display very small variations in distance, alignment, or surface condition that are invisible to the naked eye. Its main purpose is to verify that a part meets tight tolerances by measuring deviations from a reference point.

An indicator amplifies tiny movements into a visible needle movement on a dial face (or digital readout). The internal gear mechanism converts the contact point’s movement into a readable scale. Because they measure relative differences rather than absolute dimensions, indicators are perfect for quality control and setup verification in precision machining.

Test (lever) indicators – use a small pivoting lever arm with a contact point; more compact, useful in tight spaces, but can introduce cosine error if not aligned perpendicularly to the surface.
