Description

The 11IRA60 TiN Coated Internal Threading Carbide Insert is suitable for both CNC and manual lathes. It has a 60° V partial profile, allowing machinists to cut a wide variety of thread pitches without changing inserts.

The pitch range of this insert is 0.5 - 1.5mm and the TPI range is 16 - 48TPI. The inscribed circle (I.C.) is 1/4".

The partial profile design (sometimes called non-cresting) only cuts the thread groove. Due to the small nose radius (0.003") a single insert can cut multiple thread pitches providing the profile angle is 60°.

The carbide substrate absorbs the cutting force and vibrations when threading steel, stainless steel and cast iron. The TiN (Titanium Nitrite) coating provides low friction and high surface hardness. Its heat and wear resistance extends the life of your cutting tool.

This insert is designed for light to medium roughing, finishing, and semi-finishing passes.

Carbide cutting tools are a hard composite material , primarily tungsten carbide, bonded with cobalt. They can withstand extreme temperatures (up to 1,000° C) and heavy mechanical loads without losing their hardness.

Many of our carbide inserts are coated, typically with TiN (Titanium Nitride). This coating reduces friction and improves wear resistance.

Carbide indexable inserts save money since only the insert, not the entire cutting tool, needs to be made of carbide. However, when compared to solid carbide or high-speed steel (HSS), they are slightly less rigid. They can be prone to cutting pockets in your stock if the edge breaks. It is this quality which drives many of our customers to our T-15 high-speed steel made in the USA.
