Product Information
Description
A collet block is a precision workholding device designed to securely grip and position cylindrical or hexagonal workpieces. Unlike traditional vises that clamp with flat jaws, collet blocks utilize a collet – a slotted sleeve with a tapered outer surface – that collapses uniformly around the workpiece when tightened. This provides a concentric and consistent grip, minimizing the risk of distortion or damage, particularly when working with delicate or thin-walled materials.
- This SQUARE collet block provides easy indexing for 2 and 4 divisions.
- The collet block is 1.57" square and the body is 2.8" long.
- ER-32 collets have a range of 1/16" to 13/16" (2 mm to 20 mm)
The collet block itself is typically a hardened steel block, often square or hexagonal, with a precision-machined bore to accommodate the collet. The combination of the precision collet and the stable block creates a rigid and accurate platform for a wide range of machining operations.
Chris' Tips
With all ER collet chucks, the collet must be snapped into the nut before placing it into the chuck. There is an eccentric ring inside the nut that engages the groove in the collet. That is what makes them self-ejecting. Tilt the collet again to remove it from the nut.

Collet blocks are commonly used on milling machines to hold round or hexagonal stock for machining flats, slots, or other features. The secure grip and precise positioning enable accurate and repeatable milling operations such as drilling and tapping operations, ensuring that holes are accurately positioned and perpendicular to the workpiece surface.

Square Collet Blocks: These are the most common type, offering four sides that can be used for mounting or referencing.
Hexagonal Collet Blocks: Offering six sides, these blocks provide more flexibility in positioning the workpiece at different angles. They are particularly useful for milling multiple features on a single part without re-fixturing.
