This is the screw that advances the cross slide for the cross slide extended travel kit.

It is generally intended to be sold with full KIt (https://littlemachineshop.com/products/extended-cross-slide-travel-kit-dro-black-scales)

The thread pitch is 1 mm so the compound advances 0.040" per revolution. Use only with a new style DRO (black readouts).
