Description

TPG-322 carbide insert is a 60° triangle with a 11° relief.

There is no chip breaker or screw hole. It has an inscribed circle (IC) of 0.375" (3/8"), a thickness of 0.125" (1/8"), and a corner (nose) radius of 0.0313" (1/32").

The insert is designated TPG322 (ANSI) or TPGN160308 (ISO).

Inserts are sold individually—no need to buy a pack of 10 inserts.

Chris' Tips

Carbide cutting tools are a hard composite material, primarily tungsten carbide, bonded with cobalt. They can withstand extreme temperatures (up to 1,000° C) and heavy mechanical loads without losing their hardness.

These inserts feature polished rake faces, positive rake angles, and sharp cutting edges to facilitate smooth chip evacuation and minimize friction. Many of our carbide inserts are coated, typically with TiN (Titanium Nitride). This coating reduces friction and improves wear resistance.

Aluminum’s soft and ductile nature can cause long, stringy chips. Carbide inserts for aluminum are engineered with chip breakers and polished surfaces to efficiently evacuate chips, keeping the work area cleaner and safer while maintaining high machining speeds 

Carbide indexable inserts save money since only the insert, not the entire cutting tool, needs to be made of carbide. However, when compared to solid carbide or high-speed steel (HSS), they are slightly less rigid. They can be prone to cutting pockets in your stock if the edge breaks. It is this quality which drives many of our customers to our T-15 high-speed steel made in the USA.
