The LittleMachineShop.com HiTorque 7450 Mini Lathe is the best in its class. It has the most power, the most torque, the most features and upgrades, and the longest bed in its class. It is also proof that all lathes are not the same.

Most noticeable is the LED mirror display which clearly and elegantly organizes the key controls for the lathe. All controls are Illuminated, and it includes a start/stop button, a spindle direction button and emergency power (E-stop) switch. A variable speed control knob allows accurate control of spindle speeds, while an integrated spindle speed display clearly displays the speed.

The 7450 lathe also comes equipped with a 2-axis tablet display DRO connected via Bluetooth to magnetic scales on the longitudinal and cross feeds. It also has 2 digital readouts on the compound rest and tailstock. The DRO system measures in increments .0002" and comes factory installed on the lathe.

A 500-Watt brushless spindle drive motor and belt drive provides tremendous power and low-end torque. There are NO gears to shift, so no gears to break. The drive allows for spindle speeds from 100 to 2500 RPM continuously in both directions. NSK brand Japanese-quality spindle bearings ensure smooth and quiet operation.

Standard on the lathe is an all steel, wedge-type quick change tool post which accepts turning tools up to 1/2" shank. Five toolholders are also included for the most common tools and tasks. The lathe also comes with a 4" Sanou lathe chuck, a Morse taper #2 dead center for the tailstock, and an 11-gear change gear set that includes a 21-tooth gear for accurate metric threading. For more details, see the Contents tab.

Real top and bottom half-nuts with a 16 TPI lead screw and a factory-installed threading dial provide extended threading capability. You can create every American Standard Unified class 2A inch screw thread from 4 to 80 threads per inch, and you can create every American Standard Metric class 6h thread from 0.3 to 8 mm pitch with the extra 21 tooth change gear that is included.

The 7x16 lathe includes attractive aluminum hand wheels and chrome levers. A backsplash guard and deluxe chip tray with rubber feet give a broader and more secure stance.

The LittleMachineShop.com model 7450 HiTorque Mini Lathe is a version of the SIEG SC2.

*NOTE* We ship machines only to the US and Canada.

Chris Chris' Tips

Take a look at the HiTorque 7450 mini lathe in action.

View a comparison of the specifications for our lathes.

See what the difference is between the SIEG drive system and the HiTorque drive system.

With this lathe, you can create every American Standard Unified class 2A inch screw thread from 4 to 100 threads per inch, and you can create every American Standard Metric class 6h thread from 0.25 to 8 mm pitch with the extra 21 tooth change gear that is included.

But you can actually make more thread pitches than that. And, there are more change gear combinations than those shown in the users guide. To see what you can really do, see the Change Gear Calculator.

Why HiTorque mini lathes have plastic change gears.

First, a couple of notes:

  • The use of plastic gears in HiTorque machines is limited to mini lathe Change Gears. HiTorque mills and lathes have no Drive Gears as they utilize a brushless DC drive with a belt directly from the motor to the spindle. In short, there are no gears at all in the spindle drive.
  • When you read about plastic gears breaking, most cases involve the two-speed gears inside the headstock of mini mills. As noted, this does not apply to any HiTorque mini mill as we have no gears in the spindle drive.
  • The use of plastic change gears does not apply to the HiTorque bench lathes. Our larger HiTorque bench lathes, which are designed for larger work pieces, greater power, and more torque, have all metal gears as appropriate for their size.
With those qualifiers out of the way, here are some of the important points in favor of using plastic Change Gears in HiTorque mini lathes:

  • Plastic gears are quieter than metal gears. Metal change gears raise the sound level to an objectional level.
  • Plastic gears are more economical and help reduce machine cost and keep gear replacement cost to a minimum.
  • Our plastic gears are made from a thermoplastic Polyoxymethylene (POM) which are very durable.
  • In the rare cases where a plastic gear does fail, it is often due to using the lathe for jobs beyond its design parameters. In such a case, the broken gear worked as an inexpensive mechanical fuse, saving the machine from damage.
If you prefer metal change gears, we sell a Metal Change Gear Set. Note: Please check the compatiblity tab on the product page to ensure that you are getting the correct gear set for your machine.

  • "Terminal Pickup" allows for pickup at local terminal. If there is not a terminal within 50 miles (or 1 hour), we will confirm with you that you still want Terminal Pickup. Terminals tend to be near highways (usually miltiple intersecting) and industrial centers. Only certain terminals allow pick-up.

  • "Residential delivery" does not include moving machine into home/garage/workshop or any setup. Delivery is to start of driveway on the street that the delivery truck can access. (See inside delivery below.)

We will check with several trucking companies to get the best price and then call for your approval before we ship.

Canadian Shipments

Truck Freight shipping to Canada involves 3 distinct charges in addition to the product costs. (All amounts are in US Dollars, see the current mid-market exchange rate.)

  1. Canadian Provincial Taxes (GST, PST, HST) depending on which province the shipment is going to. This will be 5% - 15% added to total sales amount depending on province (Canadian Sales Tax).

  2. Hemisphere Customs Brokerage which handles all customs clearance requirements. This is a flat fee of $108 on any shipment.

  3. Truck Freight from Southern California to destination in Canada. This is generally $300-$500 for residential liftgate delivery and appointment for single machine + tooling orders. Delivery to a terminal for pick-up or a commercial location with loading capabilities can reduce this cost substantially.

Inside Delivery

For many years we have offered INSIDE DELIVERY for an added charge (as set by freight carriers). Unfortunately, most carriers have stopped this practice for liability, cost, or other reasons and we can no longer reliably offer it. If you really need Inside Delivery, please give us a call and we can try to help with your specific situation. Our recommendation however has always been to call some friends or find someone local. Saves some money and lets you meet the neighbors....

Alternatively, companies like Navis Pack & Ship (www.gonavis.com) or similar may be able to help you pack up a machine, or move it into your home/shop.
