Description

These 1/4" pre-sharpened high-speed steel lathe cutting tools are used to shape and cut metal. They is made of high-speed steel, which is a type of tool steel that can maintain its strength and hardness at high temperatures and speeds.

The tool has already been sharpened and is ready to use, saving time and effort in the machining process. These tool bits are ground in the same manner as hand-ground tool bits, so they provide an example of how to properly grind tool bits.

The 1/4" measurement refers to the diameter of the tool, while the "left hand" OR "right hand" designation indicates that the tool is designed to be used. In a left-handed orientation, the tool moves toward the right while cutting. The analogy of "left hand" is as if you placed your left-hand palm down on a surface and extended your thumb to the right. The cutting tool moves in the direction of the thumb putting the principal cutting edge on the right side. Right-handed is the opposite and more prevalent in cutting operations.

  • 45-degree chamfer angle is used to create a chamfer, or beveled edge, on a workpiece.
  • Round nose shape is suitable for a wide range of turning applications and for turning in either direction
  • Boring shape of the tool makes it suitable for a wide range of boring applications
  • Cut-off shape of the tool makes it suitable for a wide range of cut-off applications with the end ground to a 0.1" wide

These types of tools are commonly used in metalworking applications such as turning, drilling, and machining, and is suitable for use on a variety of metals including steel, aluminum, and brass.
