Indexing is the process of turning a work piece a certain part of a circle between milling operations. A simple indexing operation is milling the flats on the head of a bolt. A more complex indexing operation is cutting gear teeth.

On mini mills, most indexing is done using a rotary table. The addition of dividing plates makes indexing easier. When working with relatively long work pieces, a tailstock can be used to support the end of the work piece. In many cases, a lathe chuck is mounted on the rotary table to hold the work piece.

In this set, the rotary table is perfect for indexing, circular cutting, angle setting, boring, and spot facing operations on a milling machine. Made from precision machined meehanite cast iron, it features a 2 Morse taper center hole and is graduated with a 360° scale. The table includes a micro collar graduated to one minute with a ten second accuracy vernier scale. It also has lock down clamps and a disengageable crank. The worm gear and center hole are hardened and ground, and the table is 2.76" high when horizontal. It has a worm ratio of 72 to 1, a flatness of clamping surface of 0.0006" TIR, parallelism of clamping surface to base of 0.0008" TIR, squareness of clamping surface to angle face of 0.0004" TIR, squareness of clamping surface to center slot of 0.0008" TIR, concentricity of center bore of 0.0008" TIR, and a maximum spacing error of 1 minute, 20 seconds.

The Mini Mill Dividing Plate, a handy tool for precise milling and dividing. This plate is made of durable material and features a set of 10 holes. This allows you to divide a circle into 1/2 degree increments, which is 1/720 of a circle. With this plate, you can easily divide a circle into 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 16, 18, 20, 24, 30, 36, 40, 45, 48, 60, 72, 80, 90, 120, 144, 180, 240, 360 and 720 divisions.

This tailstock is for the 4" Horizontal / Vertical rotary table. It is adjustable in height, and has index blocks on the bottom. This tailstock is height adjustable from 69.5 mm to 71 mm.
